RED CARPET MONITOR: PNR Awards Schedule

Surprisingly, I have had a couple readers ask me what our Poppies and Rosies criteria are for our annual year end lists and awards. So here we go:

This year, movies in release between January 1 and December 31 2012 are eligible for our three annual awards – the “Just ‘Cause We Can” tongue-in-cheek awards, the Poppies And Rosies awards, and our annual top 10/Bakers Dozen lists, with one MAJOR exception. Effective beginning this year, films must be available for general viewing in major cities, NOT just Los Angeles and New York, to qualify. Three films that were on most lists in 2011 did not open in enough major cities until at least January (and in one case, March) of 2012. Because of that, those three films are considered 2012 releases by us and are eligible for our awards this year – Pina, Rampart, and We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Generally, we set December 27th as the cutoff date for our awards viewing. This year, we will still be doing that, but it will be difficult since three highly touted films come out on Christmas Day – Django Unchained, Zero Dark Thirty, and Les Miserables.  We are intending to see all three before we consider our awards if we can. If not, or if they’re not wide enough, they may end up as 2013 titles for our consideration.

Here is the PNR awards season calendar:

Sunday, December 23 – Subject:CINEMA #378 – 2012 Catch Up Show

Thursday, December 27 – All films eligible and under possible consideration will be viewed by this date.

Friday, December 28th – Subject:CINEMA #380 – “The “Just ‘Cause We Can” Awards and 2012 Top Ten Announcement!”

Saturday, December 29th – PNR/Subject:CINEMA Top Ten/Bakers’ Dozen Video Announcement via PNR’s YouTube channel

Monday, December 31st – Subject:CINEMA #381 – “The Eighth Annual Poppies And Rosies Awards!”

Tuesday, January 1 2013 – Poppies And Rosies announcement video via PNR’s YouTube Channel

We hope you’ll have as much fun listening to our year-end shows as we do making them for you!
