I would have had this up sooner, but shame on me, we’ve been so busy that I hadn’t had a moment to check on it, and I feel horrible for it.
BMX Pro Brett Banasiewicz is currently undergoing rehab treatment after a horrific crash at a contest in August. One of the top young superstars in the BMX world, his injury left him comatose for several weeks afterward, but now, he’s fighting back.
His injuries aren’t going to keep the young man known as MadDog down for long. As you can see in this video posted on 10/25, he’s making huge strides and hopes to be back sooner rather than later. After this was posted, he took to his Twitter account after watching it and said “On my way back, I’m gonna beat this.”
Brett’s family must deal with mounting medical bills, as it’s virtually impossible for extreme athletes to get insurance, and are actively seeking donations. Several fundraisers have been organized within the BMX community to aid the cause, and now the Athlete Recovery Fund is also now offering t-shirts through the ARF website. They’re $20 plus postage and go to help pay Brett’s medical bills.
PNR readers and listeners know that I don’t have much interest in regular sports; I live for skateboarding, snowboarding, and BMX. Brett Banasiewicz has been a favorite since he burst onto the scene at the age of 14 just four short years ago. Please find a place in your hearts to either donate directly or ordering a shirt to help Brett and his family deal with the mounting bills, and also tweet him a note of encouragement at https://twitter.com/iMaddog9. He’s finally off the feeding tube, and on the road to recovery, so wish him well.
WE LOVE YOU, MADDOG! HANG IN THERE!
